Otavalo is a Kichwa market town at the foot of Imbabura volcano, about 2,550 metres up in northern Ecuador. Kichwa Otavalo weavers and traders sell ponchos, shawls and cloth at the Plaza de los Ponchos, busiest on Saturdays, and work in more than thirty countries.
